February
20th
 at
6:00pm

The Wilmington History Society is a place to learn from others' experiences, ask challenging questions, and stress test your ideas against experts. Our meetings focus on deep-data studies combined with masterful storytelling and group discussion to design Wilmington's future identity.

Discussion Topic:

When the Feds broke up Delaware's largest company

As corporate juggernauts like Amazon have gained unprecedented power and control over the US economy, there are increasing calls from (mostly) anti-establishment politicians such as Bernie Sanders and journalists for the government to step in.

It didn’t always used to be that way.  A century ago it was the heart of the DC establishment leading the way.  On multiple occasions, the Feds forcefully intervened to break up several of the country’s largest and most well known companies that it deemed to be using anti-competitive trade practices, among them Delaware’s Dupont Company.

To shed light on the landmark 1911 Anti-Trust ruling against Dupont we welcome as our February speaker, Suzie Dickson, a WHS regular and adjunct history professor at Neuman University.
